Emulgel

Emulgel gel contains diclofenac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Diclofenac works by reducing substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation. Common use

This emulgel is clinically indicated for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate pain and inflammation associated with musculoskeletal disorders including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis, and sports injuries. It is also effective in managing localized pain from strains, sprains, and post-traumatic inflammation. Healthcare professionals may recommend it as monotherapy or as part of a comprehensive pain management protocol.

Dosage and direction

Apply a thin layer (approximately 2–4 cm depending on affected area) to clean, dry skin over the painful area 3–4 times daily. Gently massage until fully absorbed. Wash hands thoroughly after application unless treating hands. Do not apply to broken skin, open wounds, or mucous membranes. Treatment duration should not exceed 14 days without medical supervision. For optimal results, allow at least 4 hours between applications.

Precautions

Conduct patch test before first use in patients with sensitive skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Do not apply with occlusive dressings unless directed by healthcare provider. Use with caution in elderly patients due to potential increased skin permeability. Discontinue use if skin irritation develops. Not recommended for use during pregnancy or lactation without medical advice. Keep out of reach of children.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation. Patients with history of allergic reactions to NSAIDs or similar topical products. Application on eczematous, infected, or damaged skin. Children under 12 years of age. Patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment. Third trimester of pregnancy. History of aspirin-sensitive asthma.

Possible side effects

Most side effects are localized and transient. May include: mild skin irritation (erythema, itching, or burning sensation at application site) in <2% of users; contact dermatitis in rare cases; photosensitivity reactions with prolonged sun exposure; systemic absorption may rarely cause gastrointestinal discomfort or headache. Serious side effects are extremely uncommon with proper use.

Drug interaction

Theoretical potential for interaction with other topical medications applied to same area. Caution advised with concurrent oral NSAID therapy due to potential additive effects. May interact with anticoagulants (warfarin) though risk is minimal with topical administration. Inform your physician about all medications, including over-the-counter products.

Missed dose

Apply as soon as remembered if within reasonable time of scheduled application. Do not double the dose to make up for missed application. Maintain regular dosing schedule for optimal therapeutic effect.

Overdose

Topical overdose is unlikely due to limited systemic absorption. Excessive application may lead to localized skin reactions or, theoretically, systemic NSAID effects including gastrointestinal discomfort. In case of accidental ingestion, seek immediate medical attention. Symptomatic and supportive treatment should be provided.

Storage

Store at room temperature (15–30°C) in original container. Protect from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Do not freeze. Keep tube tightly closed when not in use. Discard 30 days after opening. Do not use if discoloration or separation occurs.
