Imodium is commonly used to manage acute, non-specific diarrhea in adults and children. Dosage and direction

For adults and children 12 years and older: Take two caplets or liquid capsules (2 mg each) after the first loose stool, followed by one caplet or liquid capsule after each subsequent loose stool. Do not exceed 8 mg (4 caplets/capsules) in 24 hours.
For children 6–11 years: Use under adult supervision. One caplet or liquid capsule after the first loose stool, followed by one after each subsequent loose stool. Do not exceed 3 caplets/capsules in 24 hours.
For oral solution: Follow age-specific dosing instructions on the package. Use the measuring device provided.
Take with water if needed. Do not use for more than 2 days unless directed by a doctor.

Precautions

  • Do not use if you have a high fever or blood/mucus in your stool.
  • Consult a doctor before use if you have liver disease, HIV/AIDS, or a history of bowel obstruction.
  • Discontinue use and seek medical advice if symptoms persist beyond 48 hours.

Overdose

  • Central nervous system depression (drowsiness, dizziness)
  • Respiratory depression (in extreme cases)
  • Urinary retention In case of suspected overdose, seek immediate medical attention or contact a poison control center.

Storage

Store at room temperature (20–25°C or 68–77°F). Keep the container tightly closed and protect from moisture and light. Do not freeze the liquid form. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
