Common use

For prescription strengths (20 mg or 40 mg tablets): Dosage varies by condition. Typical adult dosage for active duodenal ulcer is 40 mg once daily at bedtime or 20 mg twice daily for 4–8 weeks. For GERD, 20 mg twice daily for up to 6 weeks is common. Always follow the specific instructions provided by a healthcare professional. Take with or without food.

Precautions

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Overdose

In case of suspected overdose, seek immediate medical attention or contact a poison control center. Symptoms of overdose may include exaggerated side effects, such as dizziness, tremor, nausea, vomiting, or rapid heartbeat. Supportive and symptomatic treatment is recommended; famotidine is dialyzable.

Storage
